2008: Possibly put only 26 small and medium-sized hydropower projects into operation 2008: Possibly put only 26 small and medium-sized hydropower projects into operation
(11/6/2008)
By 2007, there had been 23 small-sized hydropower projects generating with the total capacity of 416 MW throughout the country. Just in 2007, there were 11 power generating projects with the entire capacity of 156 MW.

Still cut off power in peak hours Still cut off power in peak hours
(9/29/2008)
Up to September, the shortage of electricity in peak hours has not been improved and this situation is expected to last to October. Therefore, 11 power plants of The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) still have to set up the schedule of power cut in localities.

(9/18/2008)
According to the National Acceptance Commission of Construction Project, Uong Bi Thermopower Company Extension is expected to stop operating from now to the end of December, 2008 in order to overcome the lightning-stricken incident of the 220 kV Uong Bi – Trang Bach power line, which has ruined the insulator of the high-voltage line in the 220 kV transformer substation of the plant.

The temperature in the North has dropped in recent days. Moreover, water has flowed to hydropower reservoirs. Particularly, in 0.00 a.m. on August 19, 2008, in Hoa Binh reservoir, the water level was nearly 104 m and the water flow was 4,700 m3/s; in Yaly reservoir, the water level was 501.66 m and the water flow was 300 m3/s; in Tri An reservoir, the water level was 55.20 m and the water flow was 1,300 m3/s. With such water flow, the hydropower reservoirs have provided considerable power output for the power system.

The power production since the beginning of July has increased by 12.8% and power sales has increased by 14.8%. Since the beginning of the year, the power sector has produced 42.761 billion kWh, a more than 13% year-on-year increase, of which power sales has been estimated at 37.934 billion kWh, a 15.8% year-on-year increase.

(8/21/2008 4:30:28 PM)
As revealed by The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) on August 4th, the maximum additional load of the power system in Vietnam, which is estimated at 12,000 – 15,000 MW/day, usually falls in the rush hours during the day. Meanwhile, the feasible capacity of the system in the beginning of this August is just 11,000 MW. Therefore, the generating capacity of the system cannot meet the loading demand, which makes the power system lacks about 1,000 – 1,500 MW in peak hours.

6 first months of the year: lessen by 255 million kWh of power 6 first months of the year: lessen by 255 million kWh of power
(7/25/2008 4:02:27 PM)
In six first months of the year, due to the bad weather and that the water flow to all reservoirs was lower than the year-on-year level in 2007, the power sector has increased the imported power by 25.2% compared to the year 2007 and has put some new power generations into operations such as unit 1 and 2 of Tuyen Quang hydropower plant with the capacity of 228 MW and unit 2 of Dai Ninh hydropower with the capacity of 150 MW. At the same time, it has cooperated with localities to popularize solutions to save power. However, due to the rising demand of power, The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has had to decrease by 255 million kWh of power in the whole country.

2008: 1,400 MW more of power 2008: 1,400 MW more of power
(7/16/2008 1:35:17 PM)

In order to prevent power shortage and to achieve the goal of increasing by 1,400 MW of power output in this year, partially solving the energy related problem, The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) is speeding up the projects on power generation.

(6/18/2008)
As said by The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the national power network will be in short of about 1,000 MW in June when a series of power plants stop operating to be repaired and upgraded.

February: No electricity retrenchment all over the country February: No electricity retrenchment all over the country
(2/13/2008)

In January, the power supply in the whole system still faced many difficulties because the water levels in almost all reservoirs could hardly reach the normal level, of which the water level of Hoa Binh lake was 113 m, a 3 m year-on-year decrease. However, for the reason that offices and factories had days off throughout the Lunar New Year, the capacity provision of the system was up to 30%.
